The German-Mexican breakfast institution: Chunky Monkey pancakes, Peñasco chilaquiles, and the whole town at the tables.

Kaffeehaus is what happens when a German bakery and a Sonoran kitchen decide to raise a breakfast place together: house-baked bread and pastries, proper coffee, and a menu that swings from huevos rancheros with homemade tortillas to pancakes that need two hands. The dining room terraces down a hillside, cozy and a little chaotic in the best way. Ask anyone in town where to eat breakfast and this is the answer you'll hear most. Sunday morning is the proof.

Local tips

Weekend mornings are the busy ones; a weekday is the easy version. If the cinnamon rolls exist that day, do not deliberate.

What to order

The Peñasco chilaquiles and the Chunky Monkey pancakes are the famous ones. Split both across the table. Chorizo anything holds its own, and the caramel latte is dessert pretending to be coffee.

Parking

A small lot that fills fast; there's usually an attendant waving people in and out, which helps more than it sounds.
