La Casa del Capitan sits up on the hill above the old port, and at golden hour there is no better seat in Rocky Point: the harbor, the fishing boats, the whole Gulf turning orange below you. People have been making this their standing sunset appointment for twenty years, and the terrace fills accordingly. The kitchen holds its end up too: fresh ceviche, a flounder Veracruz with a following, and fries that are inexplicably some of the best in town.
Local tips
Arrive well before sunset on weekends; the terrace fills. The hillside parking is tight, so a smaller vehicle helps.
What to order
The flounder Veracruz is the star. Shrimp ceviche to start, the famous fries alongside, and whatever's cold while the sun does its thing.
Getting there
Up the hill on the Old Port headland. Follow the Malecón signs and keep climbing.
