Los Magueyales is the breakfast institution on Calle 13. The menudo is the reason to come; one weekly menudo eater called it the best he had ever had. Beyond that there are tamales and taco dorados, the chicken properly seasoned, with beans that carry a gentle heat. Waffles handle the kids. The fresh-squeezed orange juice and the horchata are both excellent.
Service is speedy and genuinely friendly, and portions land on the generous side. They will let a light eater order off the kids menu without a fuss.
Local tips
Parking is around the back and easiest early. Arrive when they open on a weekend and you will eat menudo in peace before the crowd. Saturday morning menudo is the tradition.
