Mariscos El Rey hides down a side street just before the malecón turn, which keeps it the kind of place people describe with the word 'found.' The whole fried fish is the signature move: scored into strips before frying so you pull off crunchy golden lengths and build your own tacos at the table, flanked by incredible fried potatoes and a little slaw. The tostada mixta arrives piled high with genuinely fresh mixed seafood, and a trio of sauces (mayonnaise included, this is Sonora) covers all persuasions. Mostly outdoor seating with some indoor, a relaxed BYOB tolerance, and prices that stay friendly.
Local tips
Bring a couple of beers; the BYOB custom is alive here and nobody blinks. Outdoor tables are the move in the cooler months; there's indoor refuge for August.
