Family-run Texas-style smoke that earns 'best BBQ, period': tequila BBQ sauce, fry bread, Friday karaoke.
The BBQ House is the one visitors describe with capital letters: family-run and western-themed, smoking meat that draws 'best BBQ of my life', not best-in-Mexico, best period. The ribs lead, with the sausage and pulled pork close behind. The pork belly is the sleeper, and even the chicken converts people who don't order BBQ chicken. The house tequila BBQ sauce is good enough that sauce skeptics buy bottles, the pickled onions carry a rosemary aroma somebody thought hard about, and the fry bread arrives huge and loaded. There are sopapillas, which are nearly impossible to find on this coast.
The original room is small and personal with no liquor license; BYOB is the custom, and Friday nights bring karaoke to the back patio. A second, larger location with a full bar handles the crowds; the original handles the charm.
Local tips
BYOB at the original location: bring your own beer and nobody blinks. Friday night is karaoke night on the back patio; plan your bravery accordingly.
What to order
The ribs first. Pork belly for the adventurous, and the fry bread regardless. A bottle of the tequila BBQ sauce for the road, and save room for sopapillas.
